T’wina Franklin

Born in Frankfurt, Germany and raised in the south, T’wina Franklin founded Ladies First in 2012. Ladies First is an innovative school-based learning program dedicated to building community and empowering women and girls. A graduate of The University of Puget Sound, T’wina holds an M.A. in Teaching and B.A. in U.S. Politics. In 2007 she began teaching middle school science and by 2009 was consulting in political campaigns for local candidates including Tacoma City Councilwoman Victoria Woodards, Tacoma School Board Candidate Dr. Dexter Gordon, and Congressman Denny Heck. T’wina is an Academic Instructor and Pre-College Advisor at Lincoln High School, and was recently elected a School Board Director of University Place School District. T’wina has been the recipient of the University of Puget Sound’s Distinguished Alumni Young Logger Service Award, City Club of Tacoma Dennis G. Seinfeld Emerging Leader Award and the Tacoma Public Schools WASA Community Leadership Award. For the past eight years T’wina has been a board member for her children’s Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and recently completed her 11th year as a cheerleading coach, including six years coaching University Place Junior Viking Cheer.
